We’ve all been there, you catch an invite to a party the weekend of Halloween in early October, and the grand plans for a fabulous costume begin to form. But life happens (good thing your apartment community has a 24hr fitness center) and suddenly you don’t have time to construct your elaborate ideas. Whether you're attending a party or snuggling up in your apartment watching  The Addams Family you can still dress up with the following costume ideas. These costumes are not only easy to assemble but will also elicit a few laughs from fellow party-goers or trick-or-treaters.

Spice Rack

This tongue in cheek costume is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Grab a bra that’s a few sizes too big and stuff it with some spices. Now you’re a spice rack. For a more adult version of this costume, find miniature bottles of wine and transform everyday underwear into a wine rack.

Family Tree

Using photos of your family and some leaves and twigs (or cutouts of leaves) you can transform a t-shirt or sweatshirt from a simple article of clothing to a family tree. Refine the costume by accurately connecting members of your family to their parents and children with string or electrical tape. This costume is great if you need to change in or out of it on Halloween.

“Chip on Your Shoulder”

It doesn’t matter what you wear for this costume, all you need is one very simple to DIY prop: a potato chip. You can construct your “chip” out of felt, construction paper, cardboard or foam core. Bonus points if you want to literally “spice up” your chip by decorating it to look like there is seasoning on it. 

Ceiling Fan

Perhaps the “punniest” of the pun costumes, the “ceiling fan” is equal parts laugh and equal parts groan. For the ultra-simple version, all you need is a sign that says “GO CEILING” or “YAY CEILING”. You can really get into it, though, by adding pom poms and a t-shirt or sweatshirt with “CEILING” on the front in iron-on letters.
